Bear hunting has been the antonym of productivity. My brother and I went to a place that has never failed to produce and found the late spring left us with snow up to our asses, so we went to another area with wider valleys that I used to hunt years ago. It turns out that in the 12 or 13 years since I had been there it went from bear country to day hiking urbanite country...It really is a beautiful place, and I can't blame the masses for swarming it, it's just a shame to see it happen. Stomping down the trail with our backpacks and rifles as we passed groups of classic Alaskan neo-hippies and city folk out to commune with nature, we felt very much like 30 year olds cruising a high school party for chicks. Terribly awkward. We actually saw a sign posted by the forest service asking everyone to "pack out human waste". Apparently shitting in the woods is bad for the environment now. I miss my old Alaska!
