Plans are solidifying. I am done fishing for the year, and will be dedicating the time from now to September to getting ready for the Road and working on this web site. September first being the opening day of moose season seems like the best day to step out again. As soon as the hunt is over, I'll have Them drop me off at the Toke Junction and start off down the AlCan for the first leg of the Pan American Highway. It's without question later than ideal to start hitching at such a latitude, and chances are excellent I'll get hung up along the way, but I really don't care. My family needs me for the hunt, and that's what matters. And besides, a man can never kill too many bears....
I've started acquiring the gear I'll need, new camera, boots, Carhartts, ect. The item that is one of the most critical I'm on the fence about replacing: my pack. She's got more miles on her than a 20 year old Chevy, held together with ductape, bailing wire and zip ties, I've had to restitch both straps several times. I'm nervous that she wont make it. And what it will mean if she doesn't. A hitcher's pack is a helluva thing, and the notion of replacing her is more than a little disturbing to me. I'll have to strip her down to the frame and see what needs mending and reinforcing before I decide, but it's an issue for sure.
As for AlaskanDude.com, the first real youtube video is lined up to be completed this week. A tour of a World War 2 military base, it's got some pretty remarkable visuals, and the rough draft has turned out even better than I had hoped. I personally wanted to do a tour of the Great Alaska Bush Company, but my tech guy said we could run into legal issues there. Oh well.
Also, the AD Gift Shop will be back on line soon. Full of classy coffee cups and neato knives, there should be some pretty cool shit in there.
