Probably easiest to pick up where I left off here.
After I got back to the restaurant, I learned I had misunderstood the owner (shocking) and he was actually putting me up in the back of the place with a bed and everything. I awoke the next day to a somewhat different scenario than I had in mind. I didn't leave...I helped open the restaurant, then we had lunch, and the next thing I knew I was giving English lessons to the owners 13 year old son, that ran into the evening and so on and so forth...so here I am, helping in a sea food restaurant on the shore of the Sea of Cortes, teaching English, learning Spanish, and being fed some pretty remarkable food, all at the same time. The Road works in mysterious ways, and it doesn't give a damn what country you're in.
The boy is learning quickly, with very little effort on my part, faster than I'm picking up on Spanish. He's a sharp kid. Work in the restaurant is...interesting. You wouldn't think a sea food joint would do well without running water, but they make it work. I'm the only one there that isn't a family member, so I'm feeling pretty special. Earlier today the boss man started laughing for no apparent reason, then explained that he had an American citizen working for him in Mexico...I can't say the irony is lost on me. My life is fucking ridiculous.
I've made some great friends here, and the opportunity they have given me is beyond amazing. But I can't linger forever. Which sucks, because I already know it will be a sad day when I go. It happens quicker than ya think. But such is life on the Road.
